Dear Fellow Americans,

Distressed with what's happening in our country?

Let's tell our representatives.
What's one easy and affordable way to get their attention? Send a postcard. Send lots!

The Women's March has already inspired many to flood their senators' mailboxes and together we can continue to make our voices heard. It's low-pressure, only requires a few minutes and almost anyone can do it. Here's everything you need to make it happen:

1. Choose a design and print your cards.

Pick a design from the design gallery and decide if you want to print your cards at home or professionally.

If you're printing at home
, use the DIY templates provided—just print on cardstock, cut and you'll have a card in minutes. This is a great option if you only want to print a few.

If you'd rather get your cards printed professionally, use the printer files. These are ready to upload to a web-based printing service like the examples listed below, which will have instructions on their websites. If you choose to print them at a local shop instead, check what format they require. This is a better option if you want a bunch of cards, though there's more investment required up front.

Some websites that print post cards:
  • 4over4
  • Gotprint
  • Overnight Prints
  • Print Place
  • Vistaprint

2. Look up where to send them.

Look up your senators and representatives' names at Call My Congress with your address or zip code:
Call my congress
Then use these government directories to find their mailing addresses:
Senate directory
Representative Directory
Note: At the Representative directory, use the drop-down menu to look up your rep by last name or state and click through to find their mailing address.

3. Write your message

A sample postcard template. Text version of ill-in-the-blank template available below
Time to fill out your first card! Write your own message or use the fill-in-the-blank example provided. Include your return address in the upper half of the card so your rep will know you're a constituent.

Tips:

  • Give attention to current, relevant bills and appointments.
  • Keep it short and limited to one concern/action item. You can always send more cards!
  • Don't worry about repeating yourself. If it's a message you care about, the more times they hear it the better.
  • Don't hesitate to thank your representatives who are already fighting for you! Remind them that their constituents care.

Dear Senator Jones,
As a constituent, I'm writing you to ask ________________
Here's why: _______________________________________
I hope you will consider my concerns while representing our district.

Some sample messages
Dear Senator Wyden,

As a constituent, I'm writing to ask you to do everything in your power to protect the Affordable Care Act. The ACA has significantly reduced the number of people without access to health insurance and has slowed increases in healthcare spending. Repealing it would be a huge blow to the most vulnerable people in our nation. I look forward to your response on what actions you're taking to address this matter.

Sincerely,

Jane Doe
Dear Representative Lee,

I'm writing to thank you for your efforts to protect the Title X program and access to vital healthcare services for the women who need them most. As a voter and a constituent, I appreciate all you've done to fight for accessible health and family planning services. I hope you will continue to do all you can to support our reproductive rights.

Sincerely,
Elle Emmen
Dear Senator Nelson,

I am a constituent who is appalled by President Trump's executive order restricting immigration from Muslim countries and barring Syrian refugees. I urge you to publicly oppose this order which will be devastating to the many families and individuals who have already been screened and are awaiting resettlement. Please stand up against this intolerance and discrimination!

Sincerely,
Opie Cue
Dear Senator Merkley,

I'm a constituent and writing in support of your plan to filibuster the nomination of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch. The refusal by Congress to confirm President Obama's nominee Merrick Garland showed an unacceptable disregard for our political system and cannot be allowed to go unanswered.

Resist!
John Smith

Send 'em off! Postcards cost $0.34 to mail. You can buy postcard stamps at your post office or right here online.

The more you cards you send, the bigger the impact. If you printed a bunch, you might want to send a couple out a few times a week to make your message harder to ignore. Reach out to friends and colleaugues who might be interested in sending cards too or even host a postcard writing party.

5. Beyond Postcards

Want to do more than send cards? Here are some more ideas for making an impact:
  • Call your congressperson! Calling is more impactful than writing (and showing up in person is more impactful than calling). The more you put yourself out there, the more effective you'll be! Learn more about how to make your senators and representative listen to what you have to say. The Indivisible Guide is a great resource.
  • Participate in #womensmarch actions. The 10 actions/100 days campaign is still going strong!
  • Get involved in local grassroots action! Find out what's going on in your community and how you can help.
Donate to organizations working to make life better for the most marginalized among us. Here are just a few:
  • ACLU
  • Anti-Defamation League
  • Lambda Legal
  • National Immigration Law Center
  • Native American Rights Fund
  • Planned Parenthood
  • Southern Poverty Law Center
